Dan Earle has always had an affinity for drawing and sculpting African Americans. At one time in his varied careers he worked as
a guidance counselor in the inner cities with African American children and their parents. In the 60’s Martin Luther King, Jr. became one of his inspirations and heroes. King’s courage, compassion and words hit a deep personal note with in him .
While sculpting in New York City, Dan had the opportunity to work with a well known “life model” and as the days and work passed he learned that she was a 50 year old single mother of 2, working as a model and seamstress. When she posed, she projected a soft yet confident sense of power and courage. In this sculpture he attempts to capture something of her grace and demeanor. The name “Amazing Grace”, honors the contributions African Americans have made to American culture and history.
